I was asked by one of our board members how to explain The Way 2 Serve Ministries in one minute.  Here you go! The purpose of The Way 2 Serve Ministries is to share the love of Jesus in practical ways. We provide opportunities to serve by doing home repair projects that leads to forming and building relationships with those we help. It takes the entire body of Christ to accomplish all that is involved in repairing homes and repairing people. Repairing homes is a short process but repairing people takes a long time. We are committed to both. Below are areas of the ministry that you can plug into based on how you are spiritually gifted! It is easy to get involved just e-mail info@the way2serve.org and list what area(s) you feel called to serve in. We will connect you in that area and provide any training that may be needed for you to serve. We believe in equipping and sending workers into the harvest fields.

  • The Way2 Pray. Nothing happens without prayer. This is a group of people who are prayer warriors.  They lift up the needs in our community on a regular basis.

  • The Way 2 Build. If you like to get your hands dirty for the Lord then this is your spot. This is where home repair projects are done. My Jerusalem is facilitated through The Way 2 Build.

  • The Way 2 Grow is exactly what the name says. This is where we see people grow Spiritually and in life skills. This team is a team of persistence.  This spiritual growth and these life skills don’t get built in a day like a wall does.  This team is needed for the long haul.

  • The Way 2 Prepare This is a way to serve behind the scenes to make sure we stay prepared for all the aspects of ministry.  You can use your administrative and technological gifts.

  • The Way 2Give.  This is where people who are able to partner with us financially and/or with materials and supplies plug in.

How we got started:

In 1999 I went on my first mission trip out of state.  In the following years, I even traveled out of the country to serve the Lord in different ways. About seven years ago, I felt God calling me into the mission field.  I prayed and committed to go anywhere to serve our Lord.  My heart was wide open to what God would tell me!  I expected to hear from God that He wanted my family and me to go to a foreign country.  There is a big need to share Jesus Christ in foreign countries.   To be honest, I was scared and excited to see where God was going to send us to serve.  To my surprise, He spoke clearly to me and said, “stay at home and serve me”.  At that time I did not know what that meant.  As I started praying and searching,  God started revealing to me many needs in our city that get overlooked and hurting people who have given up on asking for help.  It was clear that God wanted to use me to share His love with people by meeting their practical needs.  This was not what I expected at all when I said yes to the call, but God showed me there is a big need to share Jesus Christ in MY CITY.

So, one Saturday with a handful of college students this ministry was birthed.  We just simply showed up with a willing heart to be obedient to the call.  God blew us all away with how He used the small things we did in a big way.  As time progressed and more people opened their heart to serving our Lord by meeting practical needs right here at home, God laid on our heart a name for this ministry.   The Way

Jesus said, “I am THE WAY, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the father except through me.” John 14:6

When a person is living through a situation, maybe it’s temporary or maybe it’s more long term, and feels like they can’t find a way out, we desire to show them that JESUS is THE WAY out!  He is truth and He is life!  Many of the people we serve know that Jesus is THE way to God.  But, sadly, many of them do not!

That is how we came to claim this verse and its message as our mission and name!

Early in this ministry we began an afterschool program.  One of our students was suspended from alternative school.  I went to meet with him and a local pastor friend of mine.  The child would not open up to us and would not talk.  Finally, I gave him a piece of notebook paper and wrote on the top of it, “What can I do to help you?”  I left to give him time to think and write something down.  I expected to come back to an empty sheet of paper.  But to my surprise, he did write something down.  The number one item on his list stated, “I want you to show me the way”.  God used this small boy in a big way to give confidence and confirmation to the existence of this ministry.

I can not begin to share with you all the joy and blessings I have received from serving our Lord over the past four years.  I never dreamed that God would use my willingness to widen a bathroom door and build a wheelchair ramp to lead 3 people to become children of God.  Not only has God used this ministry to show people THE way to God, but I have also been privileged to show people that Jesus is also LIFE.  Many have found hope in a hopeless situation through my obedience to what God is telling me to do.  It is a blessing for me to be able to connect you to opportunities to share the love of Jesus in practical ways.  This allows not only me to be obedient to the Great Commission but you as well!  It has been my experience that obedience brings joy.  I know that God will bless your participation in this ministry whether it be through your prayers, your service, your donation of equipment, or your financial support.  With your prayers and support I was able to step away from the City of Opelika job at the end of September 2010.  Please be in prayer about how you can contribute to helping share the love of Jesus in practical ways.  We constantly need funds to purchase materials for projects, office supplies, and other items to run the ministry.   Your contributions are tax deductible.

Please prayerfully consider how God has planned for you to help in this good work.   Perhaps God won’t tell you to help financially, but I doubt He will tell you not to pray!  Maybe He will lead you to share this newsletter and the enclosed brochure with others who feel passionate about serving our Lord.  God can use even the small act of spreading the name and purpose of this ministry in a big way!  Be open to what He tells you to do.

I was reminded recently by a good friend of mine that this will not be easy.  I like to think of it as impossible for man.  But Matthew reminds us in chapter19 verse 26 “with man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible”.

Please join me now in giving God all the glory for what He has done, is doing, and will continue to do!!

Desiring to show people THE WAY,

Shane Kyles
